Research conducted by Florida State University related the consumption of prune with a lower risk of developing debilitating bone conditions such as osteoporosis and osteopenia, caused by loss of bone density. This same publication even suggests that in addition to preventing bone loss, they could also help reverse the low-density problem. To date, it is unknown why prune appears to have positive effects on bone health. However, these benefits are attributed to their antioxidant content and anti-inflammatory properties.
